To understand the purpose of the Restricted partner feature, it is important to keep in mind that the permissions to view any particular System entity are configured for each user separately and depend on a set of factors:
- Having specific roles enabled, which are configured in the Administration/Users interface, View/edit permissions section;
- Belonging to a specific contract company;
- Belonging to the System owner carrier;
- Being an account manager for the mentioned entity.
The possibility to restrict access to data in detail also applies to data from the SMS/Analytics interface. Here is an example: an account manager is logged in the system under a user who has only the View and edit objects of managed accounts role from the View/edit permissions section, and this user cannot see the data of accounts not administered by them. However, if, for example, traffic was sent to a managed vendor carrier from a client carrier that does not belong to this user, the related statistics for this client carrier should still be displayed, because it indirectly concerns the account manager of the vendor carrier and should be open for analysis. In this case, the client-side statistics related to the managed vendor carrier will be displayed as usual, but the name of the client carrier will be hidden under the Restricted partner bar in order to keep the client information confidential. The user will not be able to get any confidential information dividing the Restricted partner by client layers either.
So, Restricted partner is a stub (placeholder) that hides the names of carriers that are not available to the user according to their View/edit permissions, but whose statistics should be displayed to the extent that they relate to other carriers available to the user.
Restricted partner cannot be completely removed from the analytics interface, as it is a necessary component of it. However, in the future it will be possible to calculate and show analytics' Total row in accordance with permissions configured for a user on the Administration\Users tab, without taking the Restricted partner's data into the Total row. This will be possible after reworking the system setting Calculate analytics total depending on VPD in one of the future versions of the System.
