What is a validity period and where to find it in messages?
Validity period - it is the period in which a delivery report is expected from the vendor.
The value can be found in the traces in submit_sm packages.
Traces can be gathered through Administration/Trace analyzer interface (User guide for trace analyzer: Trace analyzer). For example:
- How validity period is set?
By default, if the validity period is received from the client, it is passed from the client to the vendor unchanged.
If the validity period received from the client is empty, the value is set according to the following formula:
time when message was received + time from system setting 'Delivery waiting period, sec' (by default - 2 days)
- How to change validity period?
Validity period can be changed using the SMS/Routing/Translation rules interface by selecting entity as 'Validity period'. Detailed information about it can be found in our user guide at the following link: Translation rules
- What if validity period is expired?
If the validity period in a message received from a client is expired, then further sending depends on the system parameter "Block expired messages":
Block expired messages: 0 is considered as 'no', 1 is 'yes'. The default value is 0. If a message with an expired validity period is received, it is rejected with the VALIDITY PERIOD IS EXPIRED internal status. The same name setting can be configured in Carriers\SMS channels. All channels that have the Block expired messages control set to System default inherit the System parameter value. The channel value has a priority over the System parameter value.
The logic is as follows, if after routing and application of translation rules (validity period translation) the period is considered expired (if the setting 'Block expired messages' is enabled), then the message will not be sent further and the EXPIRED status will be generated, if the setting is disabled, then the message will be sent further without validity period changing.
NOTE:
- Validity period can't be set as negative value (expired) using translation rules.
- Validity period can be translated into null (Translation=0), in that case validity period will be set as:
time when message was received + time from system setting 'Delivery waiting period, sec' (by default - 2 days)
